Slip and slippin mean two different things. Iz a play on words jah?

Anonymous

i dont think play on words means what you think it means.

Poor Dr. Dre... he is a great music producer, but an abysmal lyricist.

Anonymous

but still he sounds great. Just dont listen to the words too much.

Forget all that, he has the messiest work space going. I would have to sort that out if it was me.

CheGandhiJesus

"cause if I slip, then I'm slippin'"

That sentence is completely redundant.

Also, if you slip, it will be a very short space of time until you have completely fallen. You if you slip, you will HAVE slipped, most likely. Although you'd probably just say "slup" or something.

"Dr." Dre doesn't strike me as being the kind of person who HAS a doctorate degree. He gives himself that title but it's hard to think of a field (be it English Literature, Oceanic Sciences or whatever else) in which HE could gain a PhD.

And you know something else? "Queen" Latifah has never actually mentioned where she is the Queen of.

Come on, there's more pretence in this genre than in Handel's Messiah, isn't there?

George Daneliuc

I'm not 100% sure if it was intended, but this lyric is good if thought about this way.

A slip is something anecdotal and brief, a trip-up or fall of some sort.

Slipping is the act of consistently falling or tripping, for an indefinite period of time.

So he would be saying he doesn't want to slip (fall once), because it might signify that he will continue slipping (to consistently fall).

If we're to use the drinking analogy referenced at the top, you'd say..

Never let me drink, 'cause if I drink then I'm drinkin'

Which makes more sense, stating that if someone takes a drink they will continue drinking.

mobbtown

are you drunk?...har-larry!
